ICICI Lombard launches insurance service on Telegram messenger

The group general insurer said it had launched the service on messaging app Telegram, which is owned by Russian media giant and Fortune 500 company, Telegram.

“Icici Lombard has launched a digital insurance service on the messaging app Telegram. The service will provide insured customers with a direct channel to the service provider, an option recently made available to insurance customers in India in the form of chatbots,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The service will be available to customers in India. “The service, which will run on the real-time messaging app, Telegram is free of cost,” Icici Lombard said.

“We have been providing insurance service to customers through India’s comparable products. With the launch of

the digital service in India, we will be able to offer a comprehensive and transparent insurance service as well,” said Bimal Anand Choksi, Icici Lombard’s chief executive officer and managing director.

The insurer, which is one of the country’s largest general insurers, said the new service was made available to customers in April.

Icici Lombard has 1.6 million customers as of March, Fitch Ratings said.

The company has been growing its distribution channel by introducing new products, services, and insurance coverages.

Icici Lombard has been offering full insurance coverages like accident, travel, health coverages, and vehicle coverages.

ICICI Lombard said it will be rolling out new insurance services on other platforms.

“As part of the digital transformation strategy, we plan to take our insurance service to a wider audience in the next three to four years. We are now focused on expanding our reach through new platforms,” Fitch Ratings’ Choksi said.

Fitch Ratings has a stable outlook on Icici Lombard. Both the company and the rating agency are in agreement on Icici Lombard’s stable outlook.

“In our opinion, Icici Lombard’s rationale for raising capital is solid. However, our estimate of the required capital is slightly higher than the approved capital raised. We believe that the company should have better addressed the weak market conditions and the lack of a robust distribution network,” the rating agency added.

ICICI Lombard was incorporated in 1932 as a joint venture between the Indian giant Indian Bank, which is now owned by the country’s largest commercial lender, the State Bank of India, and Milan of Italy. In 1986. The joint venture named India Insurance Company formed the parent company.

India Insurance Company in turn raised capital in 1990 to form ICICI Lombard.
